Our Story
It all began...

Mission
At Crazy Horse Coffee, we’re more than just a coffee shop – we’re a community with a purpose. When you walk through our doors, you'll be greeted by one of our “Caffeine Dealers,” as we proudly call ourselves, ready to serve you a cup of coffee that’s crafted with care. Founded by Jim Bendel, a decorated Army veteran, our Washington, PA location honors Jim’s military background. From his army jacket adorning the entrance to photographs of his troop, the shop is a tribute to Jim’s time spent in the Crazy Horse Troop, 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment during his tours in Iraq.

A Journey of Resilience
Jim’s journey is one of resilience. Growing up in Latrobe, PA, he enlisted in the Army at 17 and served two tours in Iraq, surviving life-threatening injuries, including a bullet to his chin and another sniper’s shot on his birthday.

After earning a Purple Heart and transitioning into marketing and the oil industry, Jim found his true calling in a coffee shop that could combine his love for productivity and connection.
The Birth of Crazy Horse Coffee
Crazy Horse Coffee was born out of Jim’s vision of creating a space where people could work, network, or simply unwind with a cup of great coffee. Inspired by his time working remotely from coffee shops, he wanted to offer a place that felt like home.

A Vision of Success Through People
Jim’s motto is simple: success isn’t measured by money or titles, but by the positive difference you make in the lives of others. Every day, Jim strives to bring value to those around him, whether through the relationships he builds with his team or the community he serves.
Giving Back to the Community
Since opening in 2018, Crazy Horse Coffee has become a pillar of the local community. Jim’s commitment to giving back continues through his nonprofit, Help-Hard, where he raises funds for charitable causes and hosts events that impact both local and national organizations. His efforts were recognized when he was named one of Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest in 2019 by UPMC.
